Golden Milk Recipe

Something about a warm beverage before bedtime not only makes me feel like a kid again but it feels like a big warm hug. I’ve dabbled here and there with Golden Milk, mostly because of the benefits, but i couldn’t find a blend that I really liked. Until now.

So what are the benefits of Golden Milk?

  • Reduced inflammation
  • Improved mood
  • Supports brain function and memory
  • Preventing heart disease
  • Lowering blood sugar levels
  • Boosting the immune system
  • Aiding with digestion

All these incredible benefits come from the main ingredients in golden milk – turmeric, ginger and cinnamon. The taste of turmeric is not for everyone. I have grown up on it eating it mostly in my mom’s cooking but I found that since making this recipe, I actually don’t mind the taste.

As I continue to make this for myself nightly, my plan is to slowly increase the amount of turmeric – ideally to one tsp a cup. I also want to slowly increase the amount of ginger. This recipe does make the golden milk a bit sweeter so I would highly recommend playing around with the sweeter ingredients to your taste.

What You Need

1 cup of non-dairy milk of your choice
1/2 tsp of turmeric (start with 1/4 tsp if you’re not used to the taste)
1 tsp honey (or maple syrup if you choose to make it vegan)
1 tsp fresh ginger (or 1/4 tsp ground ginger)
1/4 tsp cinnamon
pinch of black pepper
1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Add the milk to a pot on low heat
  2. Add the turmeric, honey, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper and vanilla and whisk to blend
  3. Heat the mixture for 8-10 minutes, you don’t want to boil the drink but simmer it so all the ingredients can simmer and steep
  4. You can also occasionally whisk the drink as it heats
  5. Strain into a cup and enjoy!

I honestly love the taste of this Golden Milk so much, its incredibly easy to have every night. I’ve only been consistently drinking it for a week or so but have noticed less bloating and better “movement” of my digestion system.

I would definitely recommend playing around with the ingredients to your liking until you land on something that suits your taste.
