Happy New Year you lovely people! I hope you all had a relaxing, food filled holiday season and had a chance to reset and refuel for the new year ahead. I know that you have probably been flooded with New Years resolution posts so I’m sorry to add another one to the mix. I hope that this post will inspire to you set some intentions for the new year and provide some guidance on how to structure your resolutions or goals so you have a better chance at achieving them.
For the record, I’m no expert. But if you ask my mama she’ll tell you that when I set my mind on something, I will 100% make it happen. I guess I must be doing something right! I’m sure you’ve all heart about SMART goals, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Action-Oriented, Realistic and Timely. I believe strongly that these are the ways to make goals achievable. But I wanna upgrade this concept a little. To SMARTIE. Also one of my favourite candies. I for Invigorated and E for Excited. I also believe every goal should incite a feeling and specifically, a positive feeling. What’s the point of setting a goal if you aren’t pumped to go and tackle it?
Whether you follow all the letters or not, the most important tip I have when setting a goal is asking myself – will I be able to determine if I am failing or succeeding at this goal? Which is why being Specific and Measurable and Realistic are the most important ones for me. The reality is you may not hit every letter with your goals but if you feel excited about it and you feel like you know how to tackle it. then you more than likely set up for success.
So without further ado here are some of the goals that I am going to be tackling this year. Knowing me, I will probably add to these as the year goes on but it’s a good start in my books.
- Take part in Dry January
- No new clothes until April 2019. Basics allowed.
- Start replacing cleaning and beauty products with natural and green products as they finish
- Workout 3-4 time a week
- Write at least 1 blog post a week
- Cook at least 2 times a week
- Create a night-time routine – shower, skincare regime, no screens an hour before bed, read and/or mediate
- Put away at least $100 a month outside of my TFSA and RRSP
- Read at least 2 books a month
And there they are. Pretty simple but I’m really happy with them. They are attainable, I can literally schedule some of them and I can easily see if I am tracking towards being successful.
I am going to make a commitment to you guys (and to myself) to come back to this post after each month and provide an update on how I am tracking. I feel like it will help keep me accountable and maybe even provide you guys with some amusement.
Have you guys decided to set any goals for this year? Do you have any tips to share?
Till next week! (see what I did there!)
